# Do I need an agent to get an audition in the UK?

> No, though most parts are cast through agents. Casting directors send breakdowns to agents, who suggest their clients. Without an agent you can still be seen through open casting calls, through a Spotlight profile, and by inviting casting directors to see your work. Around 40% of the actors Catherine Willis casts are people she had never met before.

## If I have an agent, what should I do?

Ask them to suggest you when a breakdown goes out. Suggestions from every agency are looked at.

## If I do not have an agent, what are the routes?

- **Open calls.** These castings are for people without representation or experience. See the [open calls page](https://www.cwcasting.co.uk/for-actors/open-calls).
- **Spotlight.** Keep the profile current, with a clear photo and honest details.
- **Your own work.** If you are in a play, a fringe show or a short film, say where and when. Much of the new talent Catherine Willis casts was first seen on a small stage.

## Does where I trained matter?

No. Where an actor trained, and where they come from, matter far less than whether the casting director believes them.
