# What is Spotlight, and how do UK casting directors use it?

> Spotlight is the UK's main casting platform. Performers keep a profile there with credits, skills, headshots and showreels. Casting directors post breakdowns of the roles they are casting, agents suggest their clients for them, and casting directors also search the profiles directly.

## How does a breakdown work?

A breakdown, also called a casting brief, describes the project, the roles, the characters, the production details and the pay. The casting director chooses who can see it. Agents who can see it suggest clients and can add a note on why each one suits the role. Performers who represent themselves, or whose agent has given them full access, can put themselves forward for some breakdowns.

## Does a production need its own Spotlight account?

No. The UK casting director posts the breakdown and receives the suggestions.

## What should a performer keep on a profile?

A clear, current photo, honest details and an up-to-date list of credits. Casting directors search profiles directly when a brief is specific.

## Who runs it?

Spotlight is a trading name of Talent Systems Europe Limited, based in London.
