In Catherine's words
Sophie Willan's comedy is set in Bolton. Not the North, and not Manchester. The cast had to sound and feel like the town.
For the pilot we held two days of open auditions in Bolton, working through local press, schools, drama schools and community centres, alongside the usual routes through agents.
The series won the BAFTA for Scripted Comedy in 2025 and three RTS Programme Awards the same year. My casting was nominated at the CDG Casting Awards in 2022.
