In Catherine's words
How was Changing Ends cast?
Looking for a young Alan Carr
Alan Carr's comedy about growing up in 1980s Northampton stands or falls on one twelve-year-old. He has to be funny, vulnerable and unmistakably Alan.
I spent Covid looking for him. I was part of the project from early in development, which is when casting is most useful: you are helping to work out what the show is.
Oliver Savell was chosen from over 700 auditions. He won Comedy Performance (Male) at the RTS Programme Awards in 2025, with BAFTA nominations in 2025 and 2026. The show has run to four series.
