In Catherine's words
How was Somewhere Boy cast?
Finding Danny in lockdown
Danny has spent his whole life shut in a house by his father. The part needed an actor who could carry eight episodes as someone meeting the world for the first time.
I cast the series in the middle of Covid, when it felt as if there was no one else in the world and we were in a small bubble trying to find these people. Lewis Gribben came to us early. The writer, Pete Jackson, said the team knew from the moment they watched him that he was their Danny.
The series won the RTS Craft and Design Award for Casting in 2023. The jury called it a well woven cast. Lewis went on to win Actor (Television) at the BAFTA Scotland Awards.
